“Confused, she looked around the room. She was lying on a large couch in what appeared to be the living room of a log cabin. She heard soft voices speaking from somewhere behind the couch. One of them she recognized as Neal’s, and the other voice belonged to a woman Christine didn’t think she had ever heard before.
“You have to tell her,” the woman said. “If she’s your mate, she needs to know. And the sooner the better. Trust me, the longer you hide it, the worse it will be.”
“Even if sh...e is my mate, we can never be together. It’s better if she doesn’t know anything and just goes back to Texas. I don’t want her to get tangled up in this any more than she already has.”
Christine lay very still, straining to hear what they were saying. Neal must be talking about her, if he was mentioning going back to Texas. But what did he mean by mate?
