Mikhail Petrovich Artsybashev (1878-1927) was a leading exponent of Naturalism in Russian literature. He studied at the Kharkov School of Drawing and Art (1897-1898). In 1898 he moved to Saint Petersburg, where he lived as a freelance journalist. His first major publication was the story Meeting which was published in 1901.
