"Tess of the D'urbervilles" is one of the most known Hardy’s works. Tess, an ordinary country girl, becomes a victim of priest’s son courting. Since then all her life is a chain of mental tortures and endless soul-searching. Even the marriage doesn’t save her as husband goes to Brazil and leaves her working on the farm, the owner of which flirts with Tess all the time. Feeling desperate because of husband’s silence and owner’s hints, she does many foolish things. Everything ends with the murder
